This is the moment a father in mourning punched his three-year-old child’s killer in face while he was being sentenced in court.

The court in Detroit descended into chaos as after Dwayne Smith punched Clifford Thomas in the face as he gave a victim impact statement.

Mr Thomas, alongside the toddler's mother Jasmine Gordon, was found guilty of manslaughter after young Jamilia Smith died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

Although Mr Smith was removed from the court room after the incident, he was not charged.

Mr Gordon was sentenced to seven to 15 years for involuntary manslaughter and a further 14 to 25 for first-degree child abuse.

Ms Thomas was sentenced to six to 15 years for involuntary manslaughter.
