US Speaker dubbed 'Weeper of the House' after TV tears
The Speaker-elect of the US House of Representatives has been dubbed the "weeper of the House" by women after crying twice during a prime-time television interview.
John Boehner's tearful performance on '60 Minutes' followed a blubbery breakdown during his speech last month marking the Republicans' victory in the mid-term elections, when it became clear he would take the third most powerful position in Washington.
He was mocked by Barbara Walters, the veteran broadcast journalist, and her female co-presenters on 'The View'.
Mrs Walters said "this guy has an emotional problem" and contended that if Nancy Pelosi, the outgoing Speaker and first woman to fulfil the role, had cried so readily, questions would have been raised about her suitability for office.
Joy Behar, a co-host, said of Mr Boehner: "We call him the weeper of the House. He cries only when he talks about how sad his life was . . . he was a janitor, and yet he has very little empathy for people who are in that position now." (© Daily Telegraph, London)
