Teen becomes online hit with 'worst song ever'

Kevin Foster in Los Angeles

A song by a 13-year-old American teenager has become an internet sensation after it was derided as the worst one ever recorded.

Rebecca Black's pop song called 'Friday' has been viewed on YouTube 29 million times.

The song, which yesterday reached number 25 spot in the US iTunes charts, has provoked criticism, mainly because of its awful lyrics and off-key singing.

Among the highlights are lyrics such as "yesterday was Thursday, Thursday, today it is Friday, Friday".

The song was produced by Los Angeles-based independent label Ark Music Factory.

Following the success of Justin Bieber, who was discovered on YouTube before shooting to stardom, many parents are turning to the internet to get their children noticed.

For Rebecca, however, the scorn continues to pour in. "Thank you so much for this song! I finally found out the days of the week!" wrote one critic.
