Teacher (25) pleads guilty after sexually explicit video with 16-year-old student circulated around school
A former high school teacher has been sentenced to three years in prison for sexual misconduct offences with a teenage student.
Ekatherine Pappas (25) pleaded guilty to three counts of misdemeaour fourth degree sexual offences in Baltimore, Maryland. The judge suspended the sentence by all but one year and one day.
A police investigation was launched after an explicit video of her a 16-year-old student began circulating around Franklin High School, according to the Baltimore Sun.
The student, who cannot be named, said Ms Pappas asked him to skip class twice and sexually assaulted him at his house and filming it.
The victim's father read a victim impact statement in court, explaining he has not returned to school since the incident.
"I cannot begin to explain the terror of being notified that my son had been sexually abused and it was on videotape that had been circulated throughout the school for others to see," he explained.
"As a young man, this entire ordeal has been extremely confusing for him, just as it would be for any victim that is exposed to sexual activity before they are at a level of maturity, Our home is no longer viewed as a safe environment, since it is the location where the assault took place."
She will remain a registered sex offender for 15 years after her release from prison.
