Son finds US soldier dad after 60-year hunt
THE son of a former American soldier who had an affair with a French farmer's daughter during World War Two has finally tracked down his father in Texas after 60 years.
Michel Frett (65) had almost given up hope of finding his father, who returned home with no idea Gabrielle was pregnant.
Mr Frett's mother remembered that his military identity plate read "Bill Benson, Corsicana, Texas". Aged (10), Mr Frett sent a letter with only those words as an address. His letter received no response.
After years of fruitless searches, he gave an interview to a local newspaper and a Frenchwoman in Miami who read the article helped track down Mr Benson. When he looked into his son's eyes, he exclaimed: "OK. This one is a Benson." (© Daily Telegraph, London)
