A Californian rock climber has died at the age of 36 following a fall in Yosemite National Park last weekend.

Brad Parker fell from Matthes Crest last Saturday, hours after proposing to his girlfriend Jainee Dial at the summit of Cathedral Peak.

His father reported that Parker described it as "the happiest day of my life".

The experienced rock climber and yoga instructor was climbing Matthes Crest without ropes and fell shortly before 6pm from around 500 feet.

His body was recovered by park rangers on Sunday morning.

His family, friends and fiancée, were 'stunned'.

He has been described by family as "eternally positive" and "all about fitness and spirituality".

His uncle Kit told the Press Democrat that Parker "did more in his years than most people do in 75 or 80 years of life.

"We're all so stunned. What happened is so unbelievable".

His family hiked Cathedral Peak in his memory. "It's the only closure we're able to get", his father stated.

Friends and family have taken to Jainee's Facebook page with an outpouring of support. One friend posted "My heart aches for you everyday" with others offering "love and prayers".
