Police surround British Airways plane after 'bomb threat' warning

A British Airways plane landed at a New Jersey airport after receiving a bomb threat, police say.

The plane, which is carrying 206 passengers and 13 crewmembers, landed at Newark International Airport en route from London at 1.00 pm local time, and is being examined by airport police. All carry-on luggage is being inspected, and checked bags are being re-screened to ensure the safety of the craft.

ABC's Dan Linden reports that officials have deemed the threat "less than credible".

Bomb sniffing dogs were reported on the scene.

The plane is being held in a remote section of the airport and passengers will be cleared to go through Customs.

Newark Airport was the scene of another harrowing incident involving a plane on Wednesday.

United Airlines flight from Houston, Texas, landed at the airport after panels inside the plane fell off midflight. No injuries were reported on the 214-passenger flight.

The craft is currently out of service and undergoing repairs
