Nine people killed in series of shootings in Missouri

Nine people have been killed in southern Missouri in series a shootings, police have revealed.

Officials said the killings took place at at least four different crime scenes. One police officer, a highway patrolmen, told local media that the gunman involved in the shootings was dead.

Texas County Sheriff James Sigman confirmed the killings to the Houston Herald on Friday morning. Mr Sigman told the newspaper that there were four confirmed crime scenes and possibly two more.

He did not provide the newspaper with information about a possible suspect. Local residents told the newspaper that authorities said to remain in their homes and not open their doors to strangers. Reports said that counsellors had been asked to visit local schools on Friday morning.

The newspaper later said that a highway patrol man had confirmed the death of the alleged shooter.

One local resident told the newspaper that at 3.45am authorities came to the door checking for people who had been killed or injured. People said they were told to stay in the house and not to open the door to a stranger.
