A LITTLE Canadian girl is recovering after a vicious attack by a pit bull thanks to an unlikely hero – her tiny pet Chihuahua.

Eight-year-old Jenna Desrochers was playing with bunnies in her grandmother’s front yard when a neighbour’s pit bull escaped and charged at her.

The dog violently pushed the girl to the ground and began biting at her arms and face.

However Jenna’s tiny pet Chihuahua Honey quickly rushed over to defend the terrified girl.

The little dog began barking and snapping at the much larger dog in a bid to help the girl.

The pit bull became distracted by smaller dogs growling long enough for the girl’s grandmother to run out and grab the child.

Jenna was rushed to hospital where she required hundreds of stitches to her face and had to undergo major surgery.

Doctors also believe she may require plastic surgery in later life due to scarring.

The neighbour’s pit bull has since been put down.
