The first tragic few victims of the devastating Oklahoma tornado have been revealed.

Tragic Janae Hornsby, who has been described as vibrant and full of life, was a student at Plaza Towers Elementary School.

Little Janae is one of nine children who lost their lives in the super storm and the death toll has reached 24. Her father Joshua visited a shelter for parents searching for their missing children when he learned the news yesterday morning.

"She was the best kid anyone could have," Joshua told CNN. He declared that he would "keep pushing on like I know she would want me to."

Her once vibrant school has been torn apart by the tornado, which has been raised to an EF5 rating, the highest rating possible for this type of storm.

Teachers throughout the various elementary schools are being praised for their heroic efforts and stories of immense bravery me coming through. One teacher was found physically covering three of her students, while another saved countless young lives by moving her class into a closet and trying to distract them by organising sing-alongs to counteract the noise of the tornado.

It is expected that more of the children who tragically lost their lives will be publicly identified later on today.
