Drugs mule Melissa: Don't be as stupid as me
DRUGS mule Melissa Reid has issued a warning to not follow the “crazy” lifestyle that got her into trouble in Ibiza.
Ahead of her 21st birthday today, she wrote a dairy entry from her prison cell warning others “not to be so stupid.”
“A year ago today, if someone was warning me of the dangers of drugs smuggling, I would probably tell them to f*** off. And how I would not be so stupid and how it would never happen to me.
“It’s not big and definitely not clever.
“As glamorous as the drug lords make it out, it’s not. Our generation are always finding a new, low-budget, fast-hitting drug – if it’s not Ket [Ketamine], it’s pills or coke, and why not throw a bit of acid in to make it a real night to remember”
“The island of your dreams – oh sorry, you mean the island where everyone is living in a dream.”
Melissa, who is from Lenzie near Glasgow and her accomplice Michaella McCollum Connolly (21) from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, were jailed in Peru last year after they admitted trying to smuggle cocaine worth €1.8m.
They had previously been held at Lima’s Virgen de Fatima prison but were moved to the Ancon 2 prison where they share a cell with six others.
The pair are hoping to be transferred to prisons in the UK to carry out the remainder of their six year and eight month sentence but the transfer is still in the early stages and could take months if not years.
