'Deranged fan' who was obsessed with female wrestler shot outside WWE training facility
POLICE have shot a 'deranged fan' outside a WWE training facility in Florida.
Police said the man was armed with a knife, and was shot when he began to approach officers.
He was rushed to hospital for surgery, however is expected to survive his injuries.
It is understood the man was violating a court order which banned him from entering any WWE property.
It is believed he has an obsession with one of the company's female stars, which led to the restraining order.
The female's name has not been revealed.
TMZ reports that on a previous occasion the man urinated and smeared excrement on the building.
The shooting occurred at the wrestling company's performance centre, where it trains up-and-coming athletes under its 'NXT' brand.
Two Irish wrestlers train at the facility - Bray native Fergal Devitt and Dubliner Rebecca Quinn.
Devitt performs under the name 'Finn Balor' while Quinn goes by 'Becky Lynch'.
“Unfortunately a deranged individual with no WWE affiliation, who had a court order prohibiting him from being on WWE property, was involved in an incident with an Orange County Sherriff’s deputy in the parking lot of the WWE Performance Center," the WWE said in a statement.
"We defer to the Orange County Sherriff’s department for further comment and information.”
