Video: Giraffe killed after head smashes off bridge

In an incident similar to a scene from the movie The Hangover 3, a giraffe was killed when its head smashed into a bridge in South Africa earlier this week.

These bizarre pictures show two blindfolded giraffes in an open-top truck travelling along Johannesburg's N1 motorway in South Africa on Thursday.

Shortly after these pictures were taken both giraffes collided with a bridge on the motorway.

One suffered severe head trauma and died later that day.

A spokesperson for South Africa’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said that the animal died of “severe head trauma” and it was investigating “with the view to possibly laying criminal charges.”

He also said it was fortunate the other giraffe survived, saying “We have already nicknamed it 'Lucky'”.

The incident has caused outrage on social media and has tragically been compared to a scene in film The Hangover 3 in which character Alan Garner buys a giraffe and accidently decapitates it on a motorway bridge.
