Meet the Miss Ireland hopefuls
Introducing the beauties vying it out for the coveted crown
WHEN it comes to beauty pageants, few countries do it as well as Ireland.
It may seem at times that there are more pageants than people, but Miss Ireland is still in a league of its own. Last night, more than 20 local beauty queens launched the competition at Dublin nightclub Buck Whaley's, all hoping to take home the crown and head off to Miss World.
The details of this year's competition are still under wraps, but it is expected to take place later this summer when all of the local heats have been completed. Last year's show was shrouded in controversy as the original winner Maire Hughes, was de-throned just three days into her reign when it was revealed that she was "too old" to compete at Miss World under pageant rules. Her runner-up Rebecca Maguire was therefore crowned.
Former Miss Irelands include Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model contestant Holly Carpenter, Emma Waldron, Rosanna Davison and tv presenter Pamela Flood, and 1991 winner Amanda Brunker was in attendance as was Tallafornia's Kelly Donegan.
