Few Hollywood bust-ups saddened me as much as that of Stuart Townsend and his stunning long-term partner, South African Charlize Theron. The longevity alone of their romance impressed. And there was me thinking the secret of its success lay in the fact that they didn't get married.
The good news is that -- far from acting up -- Stuart is just getting on with what he does best. Yes, acting.
The Howth-born actor is currently in talks with producer Noel Pearson about a film set in South Africa, starring Woody Harrelson. Pearson, according to my source, recently offered Stuart a part.
Asked why Charlize and Stuart broke up, a friend of Stuart's told me: "Stuart is currently asking himself that very question. So how would anyone else know? He is obviously very sad after nine years together." He and Charlize went to Mexico on January 2 for what was supposed to be a 10-day break. "They came back the following day," said my Stuart Deep Throat.
Stuart is due to come home to Ireland soon to meet his siblings Dylan and Chloe. And if there is a bit of wound-licking involved, well, who are we to judge? Stuart's father, professional golfer Peter Townsend, lives in Sweden with his Swedish wife, Sofia, and their two kids, Hugo and Ella. Stuart's late mother was, of course, the unforgettably beautiful Lorna Townsend.
