She really runs the world - Beyonce lands coveted 'Time' cover
Superstar Beyoncé has landed the coveted cover of Time magazine.
The iconic magazine unveiled its 11th annual “Time 100 Most Influential People in the World” issue and chose the powerful pop diva to grace the cover.
Figures from music, movies and the political world take up most positions on the list.
Beyoncé gave TIME.com the first official exclusive to show the public her new “Pretty Hurts” video from her latest album.
Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg told Entertainment Tonight that Beyoncé deserved the cover for her hard work and initiative.
‘‘Beyonce doesn't just sit at the table. She builds a better one.
‘‘Her secret; hard work, honesty and authenticity. And her answer to the question, What would you do if you weren't afraid? appears to be, 'Watch me. I'm about to do it.' Then she adds, 'You can, too.'"
Cover in-depth features inside the popular magazine include actor Robert Redford, Jason Collins, the NBA's first openly gay athlete and General Motors CEO Mary Barra.
Among the rest of this year’s honorees are actress Amy Adams, Amazon founder and The Washington Post’s newest owner Jeff Bezos, Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Pope Francis.
Potential presidential candidate Hilary Clinton, actress Christy Turlington Burns and “Happy” singer Pharrell Williams also took a spot.
Superstar Justin Timberlake spoke to Time magazine about why music legend Pharell deserves his spot.
‘‘The collaboration I have with him is like no other. He made me fearless, and I've carried that with me the rest of my life. ...His music actually does make you happy. ...Maybe that's why he still looks younger (he's 41) than the rest of us. Yep ...Pharrell Williams is having way too much fun.’’
Controversial pop singer Miley Cyrus also made the cut of the world’s most influential people.
Dolly Parton lent her support behind Miley, saying, ‘‘If I didn't know how smart and talented Miley is, I might worry about her. But I've watched her grow up. So I don't. She knows what she's doing. ...She doesn't have to be so drastic. But I will respect her choices. I did it my way, so why can't she do it her way?’’
The ‘‘Time 100’’ is a roundup of those who have inspired others over the past year, regardless of their moral standing or work.
Each honoree is profiled in an article authored by respected writers.
The TIME 100 issues goes on sale Friday, April 25.
