Private jets fly south for Sutherland marriage
I CAN solve the mystery of why there wasn't a private jet to be had in Dublin airport on Friday evening. They were all flying out to southern Spain for the wedding of the year yesterday.
The wedding was that of Ian Sutherland, son of former Irish attorney general Peter Sutherland, to Eva O'Reilly. The marriage of the beautiful couple, who have been together a long time, took place at the Ritz Carlton Villa Padierna just outside Marbella, which is the perfect wedding location with its sumptuous gardens. But Ian would have known all that, being in real estate in London.
A guest described bride Eva to me as "one of the most beautiful women in Ireland". The groom's proud dad Peter Sutherland is, of course, himself with a beautiful woman. He has been married to Spanish beauty Maruja for more than 35 years. Lest we forget, Peter is chairman of Goldman Sachs International and oil giant BP, an adviser to the Vatican as well as the founding director general of the World Trade Organisation. He was also chairman of AIB from 1989 to 1993. So, that makes him one of the few bankers we love in Ireland.
But back to the wedding of the year. It was a no-expense-spared bash that went on until the small hours last night. Tonight, there will be a huge party in La Zagaleta golf resort and country club: in the mountains of Benahavis off the highway to Ronda.
What else can I say? maybe something along the lines of Espero que todos los dias y las noches esten llenos de amor.
