HIS dad George was famous for his flowing locks, but unfortunately son Calum has been follically challenged - until now that is.

The 31-year-old who competes in the final of Celebrity Bainisteoir this weekend, has undergone a €10,000 hair transplant at a clinic in Manchester, with a top surgeon from Channel 4’s ‘Embarrassing Bodies’ performing the procedure.

Best had 1,850 hairs transplanted from the side of his scalp to the front of his head by Dr Asim Shahmalak.

The former boyfriend of Lindsay Lohan and Georgia Salpa admitted: “You find it hard to concentrate fully, because you are worried that they will be noticing your hair.”

Best, who began to go bald at 23, explained that he damaged his hair from using peroxide to go blonde in his teens.

He also suffered from a condition called traction alopecia caused by pulling his hair back too tightly into a ponytail in his early 20s, known as the Croydon Facelift, also popular with Kate Moss and Cheryl Cole.

Although it will take six months for the full effects to become visible, the improved hairline is noticeable in the ‘after’ shot provided by the clinic.

Calum chose to wear a hat yesterday when promoting the final of Celebrity Bainisteoir in which his team Moy Davitts of Mayo battle it out against Newtown Cashel GAA club from Longford, managed by model Rozanna Purcell.

He is the latest in a line of celebrities who have chosen to undergo hair transplants to stop their receding hair lines.

Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney had a transplant at the age of 25 and two years on now has a much improved hairline.

Louis Walsh famously got hair plugs in a Blackrock clinic last summer and said: “I could have just left it and got on with things but with TV today, everything is in high definition and people notice every little thing.”

TV chef Gordon Ramsay spent over €35,000 on a hair transplant but didn’t look too much different afterwards.

However Northern Irish actor James Nesbitt has admitted to being delighted with his now full head of hair, having had two transplants to give him the required effect.
