George Clooney is set to lose €100,000 on bets with friends after reportedly getting engaged.
The 52-year-old star will marry British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, who he has been dating for around six months.
For years George has been seen as the most eligible bachelor in Hollywood and it was thought he would never tie the knot again, following the end of his four-year union with Talia Balsam in 1993. He has repeatedly insisted he was unlikely to marry again and even entered into wagers with several of his A-list pals, which he’ll now have to pay out on.
According to British newspaper The Sun, Michelle Pfeiffer is in line for a €60,000 pay day because her bet with the silver-haired star has been going on so long.
“I bet him he would get married and he keeps inflating the bet,” the actor’s co-star on 1996’s One Fine Day previously said.
Nicole Kidman also stands to make some cash, a reported £20,000. She insisted he would be betrothed by 40, but when that didn’t happen and she tried to settle the score, George sent her cheque back.
“Double or nothing until I’m 50. And on it keeps going,” he laughed.
George’s Gravity co-star Sandra Bullock is one of his close friends and is also thought to have bet him he would marry, saying she had put down €12,000 and expected him to find a “very patient, lovely wife”.
News George and Amal are to tie the knot broke over the weekend. She was apparently seen out in Miami with a giant diamond ring on her finger late last week.
George has dated a string of women over the years, most recently Stacy Keibler and Elisabetta Canalis. Relationships have never been the be all and end all for the star though.
“I've had some absolutely great relationships and some not so great relationships," he previously told British newspaper The Daily Mirror. "I've been in some relationships where I've felt terribly alone. Just because you're with someone it doesn't mean you're incredibly happy and complete."
