Despite turmoil in his personal life and his professional setbacks, Tiger Woods is at number five with $105m accrued during the past year.

4: Lady Gaga – $62m

Lady Gaga is the highest newcomer. The outrageous star has overshot stars like Madonnaand U2 to claim fourth place.

‘Avatar’ director James Cameron returns to the list – this time in third place – for the first time since 1999, earning $210m.

1: Oprah Winfrey – $315m

Oprah Winfrey reclaims the top spot as the most powerful celebrity with $315m after last year's number one Angelina Jolie dropped to 18th position.
