Doctor Who: First pic revealed
Doctor Who fans have got a look at the first still from the opening episode of the new series.
Entertainment Weekly has revealed the photo, which shows new Doctor Peter Capaldi with sidekick Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) in period dress and staring intently at something out of shot.
In the picture, Peter is dressed in a shabby coat rather than his Time Lord get up, although no clues are given as to whether he is in disguise.
Executive producer and head writer Steven Moffat had said that the opening episode, Deep Breath, would concentrate on introducing the new Doctor.
He explained: "There's no point pretending that it's not the most interesting, dynamic thing that you've got to sell in that first episode.
"It's going to about 'What's he like? How's he different?' I suppose it f eels a bit like a character piece, but there's plenty of action and nonsense and jeopardy, as there ever is in Doctor Who."
Meanwhile, it has been announced The Kumars at No 42 actor Sanjeev Bhaskar has landed a role in the new series.
He will appear in the final episode where the Doctor faces his deadliest enemies, rumoured to include The Master and Davros.
Steven said of Sanjeev's signing: "I'm completely thrilled he is coming to the aid of the Doctor. The danger is never deadlier than in a finale episode, and the Time Lord is certainly going to need all the help he can get."
Sanjeev added: "I'm thrilled to have made a small contribution to - and now be part of - the Doctor Who universe. Another dream box ticked."
