FORMER Disney heartthrob Zac Efron had to stints in rehab to treat a cocaine addiction, it has been reported.

Fans were shocked earlier this week when it was reported by US media that the normally clean-cut star was treated in rehab for an addiction to the drug.

However new reports which emerged overnight have alleged the actor has been treated twice.

Showbiz website TMZ reports that he suffered a relapse while shooting movie 'Neighbours'.

Meanwhile website Radar online reports that the 'High School Musical' star partied with Charlie Sheen during his drug use.

"Zac was in Charlie’s inner circle for a few months earlier this year. The two became very good friends", a source told the site.

"Zac was spending a lot of time at Charlie’s Beverly Hills mansion and they were definitely partying together, sometimes for days at at time. There were a lot of very good looking women hanging around."

"Zac had been on a downward spiral since 2011, he was just good at hiding it and not getting caught.

"He was partying because he was unhappy and basically just didn't give a f**k.

A representative for Sheen dismissed the reports when contacted by TMZ.

Friends of the 25-year-old star are also reported to be worried that he could die if he relapses again.

"Friends are genuinely worried about him, because if Zac relapses like Cory Monteith did he'll likely go back to using the same amount of drugs he was doing before rehab. And it will kill him", the source said.

The actor is now believed to be clean, telling reporters at the Toronto Film Festival he was 'happy and healthy' last week.
