Cowell wants X-entrics on X Factor
Simon Cowell has reportedly ordered X Factor producers to bring back weird and wonderful wannabes to the audition process.
Former judge Gary Barlow said last year he wanted people to take the ITV singing talent show seriously, and dismissed novelty acts.
But The Sun reported that Simon wants to inject more fun into this series as part of his drive to boost ratings.
The newspaper said a singer describing herself as a Myleene Klass lookalike auditioned at the weekend. But Simon asked her to return as a Cheryl Cole impersonator, much to the amusement of the other judges.
Other unusual wannabes this year include twins describing themselves as the female Jedward, another pair of "quirky" male twins from Canada and a band called Joys who have been compared to brother-sister band Same Difference who appeared on the show in 2007.
In the past wacky acts, whose outgoing personalities outweigh their ability to sing, have proved a hit with audiences.
X Factor eccentrics of the past include cheesy singer Chico, hyperactive twins John and Edward Grimes, aka Jedward, hairy crooner Wagner, diva Kitty Brucknell, former drag queen Johnny Robinson and Essex diva turned TV star Rylan Clark.
