ALI Hewson, the wife of rock star Bono, has been hospitalised after an accident in Costa Rica.
The wife of the U2 frontman suffered broken ribs when she fell from a quad bike on a beach, according to local media.
It is understood the couple have been holidaying in the Central American country for the past 10 days.
Ms Hewson and Bono were somewhere near Cóbano de Puntarenas, on the Pacific coast, when she had the accident on Saturday.
Early reports suggested that Ms Hewson had broken a leg following the fall.
But it is understood that Ms Hewson was airlifted to hospital in San Jose where she received treatment for broken ribs.
Immigration officials confirmed that Ms Hewson and her husband – real name Paul David Hewson – had been in the country since February 11.
Bono has become fond of visiting Costa Rica, which is on the west coast of Central America.
He and U2 guitarist The Edge were spotted last year swimming with dolphins off the Osa Peninsula, on the band’s private yacht.
U2’s publicist was not available for comment last night.
