Ben Affleck is adding television director to his list of skills.

The Hollywood actor and movie director - who has often been approached about TV work - will take the reins on the pilot of a new crime drama for Fox, reported Deadline.

Ben, 41, has teamed up with Glenn Gordon Caron, who has penned the pilot episode of The Middle Man.

The TV series is set in the 60s and follows an FBI agent charged with taking down the Italian mafia. So far there are no details on casting.

The series is similar to some of Ben's movies, including The Town and Gone Baby Gone, in that it will be set in Boston.

Production is due to start in 2014.

Ben also has several movies coming up, including the thriller Gone Girl and the Man Of Steel sequel, in which he will play Batman.
