Maurice Gunning: 'The Zamfira Family, Giurgiu, Romania'

This family portrait was taken in the home of the Zamfira family in June. The Comber Foundation has been working in Romania for more than 20 years, and in 2014 we will publish a photobook and exhibition celebrating the lives of those involved.

The Comber Foundation sends Irish healthcare volunteers to the region to support these families and prevent the institutionalisation of their loved ones. See comber.ie/photobook for more details.

Maurice has worked on commissions in Romania, Hungary and Belarus in the past two years, with support from the Irish Arts Council and the Irish Embassy. His work on the Argentine Irish diaspora features in this year's PhotoIreland Festival. Maurice filmed the unfolding story of the Chilean miners' rescue, which was aired on RTE and the History Channel. See mauricegunning.com
