US rapper 50 Cent has had an appearance at a promotional event cancelled by organisers following controversial remarks he made about autism.

In a recent Twitter feud with a fan, the artist said: "Just saw your picture fool, you look autistic."

He was due to launch his series of SMS headphones at the Dundrum Town Centre branch of Carphone Warehouse in Dublin today.

However, in a statement last night, the firm said it had pulled the plug "in light of the recent comments and the subsequent concern from customers".

It said it will not withdraw the rapper's product -- high-end headphones and accessories -- from shelves but said it would be donating profits from sales this week to Autism Ireland.

Responding to a fan who had remarked on his forthcoming album release, 50 Cent -- otherwise known as Curtis Jackson -- said he looked like someone with the condition: "I don't want no special ed (education) kids on my time line, follow somebody else."

The remarks quickly sparked a storm of retorts on the site.

50 Cent, who is no stranger to controversy, quickly withdrew his remarks last Sunday.
