Which celebrities had our tongues wagging this year? We present the 20 most talked-about showbiz personalities of 2013.

1. Miley Cyrus

Without a doubt, the 21-year-old singer was the most talked about celebrity this year. Starting the year relatively quiet, albeit for a few raunchy snaps online, Cyrus exploded onto the headlines in September with her controversial MTV VMA performance with Robin Thicke. Since then the former Disney star has been twerking her way from one hit single to another. Maybe it hasn't all been in vain.

2. Dennis Rodman

The NBA Hall of Famer has always been a controversial figure but left many scratching their heads this year with his newfound relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un. The basketball player visited the totalitarian regime to host basketball Ty-outs and was reportedly eager to meet the country's leader as well.

3. Kim Kardashian

If raising her profile was reality TV star Kim Kardashian's resolution for 2013, she succeeded. The 32-year-old had people talking about her relationship to rapper Kanye West, analysing her unfortunate pregnancy style, waiting for the anticipated announcement of their baby's name and in awe at her rate of pregnancy weight loss post-birth. The rapper not only enjoyed a successful year in his career but also hit the headlines for more of his paparazzi-hating fits and, of course, THAT music video he made with his partner Kim. 'Bound 2' if you're going to search it now...

5. Niall Horan

The young Mullingar man not only enjoyed another year of One Direction success and the announcement of  world stadium tour, but the 20-year-old also had millions of hormonal teen girls speculating about his love life no potential single status.

6. Harry Styles

Horan's band colleague will always make the most-talked about list. The 19-year-old Lothario didn't give up on his womanising ways in 2013, his most interesting relationship probably being that of  Rod Stewart's daughter Kimberley, fourteen years his senior.

7. Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan was on the pages for all the wrong reasons this year. Multiple arrests meant that Lohan was the name on everybody’s lips in Hollywood. It could be turning around for the star though as she recently signed the deal for a reality show on Oprah’s channel OWN.

8. Lady Gaga

The Queen of Pop will always hit headlines for her bizarre costumes and hit music, but this year people were talking about the singer’s newfound friendship with ‘Eastenders’ veteran Dot, actress June Brown.

The pair hit it off on Graham Norton’s couch and bonded over fashion, lyrics and gossip.

9. Khloe Kardashian

Everybody’s favourite Kardashian experienced heartbreak this year following her husband Lamar Odom’s drug addiction revelations and their subsequent divorce proceedings. But the 29-year-old has already been spotted out and about with baseball star Matt Kemp.

10. Detective Kieran O’Reilly

Otherwise known as the ‘Love/Hate’ real-life Garda. The Garda faced suspension this year following his appearance as undercover cop Ciaran Madden in the hit RTÉ show ‘Love/Hate’.

11. Beyoncé

Beyonce will always hit the headlines, that’s a fact. This year Bey kept her fans updated with her luxury lifestyle with a selection of enviable holiday snaps on her streamlined Tumblr account. The singer showed off how she can balance family life with husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy and her career with her Mrs Carter World Tour.

12. Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton was our British royal of interest this year as the royal baby hype hit new heights on social media. The 31-year-old gave birth to Baby George in July.

13. Amanda Byrnes

Amanda Bynes had a troubled year as her social media updates caused reason for worry. The former child star has since attended a psychiatric facility which she will do until 2015.

14. Jack Gleeson

Corkman Jack Gleeson, who shot to fame in hit TV series ‘Game of Thrones’ announced this year that he will be turning his back on celebrity and walking away from a promising Hollywood career after the show.

15. Lea Michele

The Glee star tragically lost her boyfriend and colleague Cory Monteith this year. A ‘Glee’ tribute was aired for the 31-year-old actor and Michele was recently expressed her interest in moving on from the musical TV series.

16. Adele

It’s been a massive year for songstress Adele – an Oscar-winning performance of ‘Skyfall’ for the latest Bond instalment being her highlight.

17. Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr not only ‘stepped down’ from lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret this year but also revealed her split from actor husband Orlando Bloom. The 30-year-old has since been linked to Australian billionaire and family friend James Packer.

18. Cara Delevingne

The most-talked-about model featured on six Vogue covers this year alone.

19. Nigella Lawson

The 53-year-old celebrity chef Nigella admitted in court during the fraud trial of her two former assistants that she took cocaine. The ‘Domestic Goddess’  was scrutinised by the world’s media as she took to the dock in the fraud trial.

20. Amy Huberman

Not content with writing books, acting and designing shoes, Huberman is now developing her own film script.
