Sunny spells to cast their magic a while longer

LEAVE your jacket at home, the clear skies are set to continue for a few more days.

After what seemed like an endless winter, people around the country can bask in the knowledge that the sun will greet them when they walk out the door, for at least a while longer.

Yesterday, Met Eireann said the dry and sunny weather will continue until the weekend with the south and south-west of the country enjoying especially good forecasts.

Apart from some cloud over parts of Ulster yesterday, conditions were dry everywhere with peaks of 17 degrees at Shannon airport.

Normally temperatures can expected to be between 13C and 14C during April, according to forecaster Eoin Sherlock, but these have been exceeded following a long period of poor weather.

While the east of the country has not fared as well due to winds, overall there has been a massive improvement since an area of high pressure emerged to the north-west.

"We can't really complain for the next few days, dry and settled. Going into next week, the temperatures will dip a little bit, at night it will get cooler, it will get in and around zero degrees at night," Mr Sherlock said.
