SPRING is still officially weeks away but signs of it were everywhere yesterday and the recent spell of exceptionally mild weather is set to continue.
Some plants and wildlife in Dublin's Phoenix Park are behaving as if spring has already sprung, according to park superintendent Dr John McCullen.
"You're getting crocuses coming up earlier and daffodils are flowering earlier. Snowdrops will be earlier and birds are much more active on any good day," he said.
With the exception of Saturday, temperatures have been in the double digits since last Friday, hovering between 10C and almost 12C, said Met Eireann meteorologist John Eagleton.
While Met Eireann doesn't officially recognise the first day of spring until March 1, "it certainly feels like an early spring", he told the Irish Independent last night.
