Summer is taking a few days off.

The warm weather has waned and grey skies and downpours are on the cards today.

Met Éireann have forecast heavy rain or showers with thunder in Munster, Connacht and south Leinster.

The rain will gradually spread eastwards to all areas, with a continuing risk of thunder and localised flooding.

The downpours are expected to clear northeastwards through the evening.

It will still feel humid with highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees expected.

On Tuesday night, a yellow weather warning was in place for counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath and Meath.

The warning was put in place from 8pm until 6am this morning.

Met Éireann has predicted breezy conditions with showery rain and slightly cooler days throughout the rest of the week.
