Don’t put your shorts and sunglasses away just yet – it looks like the good weather is here to stay.

While it is traditionally the second week in June when exams begin that the good weather makes an appearance, it looks like it's arriving a week early this year.

Although we can expect a few heavy showers on Sunday, sunshine and temperatures of up to 21C are expected throughout the week.

Temperatures will reach up to 20C today with some heavy showers expected in the afternoon before clearing away throughout the evening. Dense mist and fog will develop over night.

Monday looks set to be the best day with mostly dry and sunny conditions and temperatures rising up to 21C. There is a risk of a few scattered showers in the afternoon, with mist and fog returning overnight.

The dry and sunny weather will carry on to Tuesday, with temperatures of 15C to 20C expected throughout the country. Outbreaks of rain will develop throughout the day in the east and north.

Wednesday will be cloudy with some showers in the southwest and west, though it is set to stay dry in many parts of the country and temperatures are set to rise to 21C in the afternoon.

Towards the end of the week, temperatures will reach the low 20s with indications of lasting for the long weekend, though there is a threat of some rain.
