Get out and enjoy the next 48 hours of sunshine as temperatures will be at their best for the week.

Temperatures today will range between 17 and 21 degrees in the midlands, while the west and the rest of the country will remain dry and experience some sunny spells.

However, coastal areas will see some patchy mist and drizzle which will drift inland.

"Temperatures for the rest of this week will be between 15 and 17 degrees," Met Éireann forecaster Joanna Donnelly told RTE Radio One's Morning Ireland.

Tomorrow, rain will extend towards the east in the afternoon and become persistent later in the day.

The 'Friday feeling' will be helped with a largely dry day for much of the country and "some good sunny spells."

And finally - the Bank Holiday weekend isn't promising a great start.

There will be little change to the weather on Saturday, but the showers in the west will make further progress inland and will become widespread during the afternoon.
