After lull, further storms on horizon

Paul Melia and Ralph Riegel

HIGH winds and rain are set to hit the country again early next week as another winter storm arrives.

Gusts of up to 140kmh struck the north and western coasts yesterday, leading to road closures and damage to property.

And last night Met Eireann warned that although the winds will die down today, they are likely to return early next week.

"Another storm will pass the north west," forecaster Joan Blackburn said.

"It could land late on Monday or into the night."

Today will be cold, with temperatures between 4C and 8C in the south west, and there will be some showers, mainly in the west and north.
