WATCH: Five activists arrested as group of masked men secure vacant Dublin property

Five activists of the group 'Take Back the City' were arrested yesterday evening.

A group of masked men arrived at a vacant property occupied by the activists on North Frederick Street yesterday evening.

None of the group wore identification and proceeded to enter the property using an electric saw and power tools.

After the arrest, a support group and members of the public gathered at Store Street Garda station to demand the activists release.

Four of the five activists presented to hospital for concussion and minor injuries.

'Take Back the City' released a Facebook press statement today noting:

'It is important to highlight that, as the security firm sent to enter the building contravened the ... legislation, An Garda Siochana therefore defended an illegal activity and arrested activists who opposed this illegal activity.'

A solidarity rally is to be held in Dublin at 5:30pm at the property.
