The Sacred Heart Football team from Tallaght were treated to an incredibly moving rendition of Luke Kelly’s The Night Visiting Song on their return bus trip home after a friendly match in Cork on Sunday.
Sacred Heartteam were on the road home after a 500 km round-trip to Carrigaline United Football Club where they managed to pull off an impressive 2-1 away victory to a very strong Carrigaline team that boasted former Cork City players Greg O’Halloran and Denis Behan.
And the victory was made all the sweeter for the team, as Sacred Heart fan Martin Maughan serenaded his team with a spine tingling version of Luke Kelly’s classic The Night Visiting Song.
The bus fell uncharacteristically quiet due to the mesmerising nature of the performance.
The players can be heard joining in the sing-song during the choruses, making for a great moment for all on the bus.
The song is clearly proving as a favourite for teams to sing after big victories as Paul Flaherty, of Monivea Abbey GAA club, gave his teammates a similarly brilliant performance of the song after their 5-10 to 1-6 win over the Aran Islands last month.
Flaherty gave his version of the song on a tourist-filled 45 minute ferry back to the mainland from Inis Mór, while Maughan performed his on the five hour journey home to Tallaght.
