Video: Northern Ireland fan waits 3 decades to drink this Mexican beer which he vowed not to drink till his team qualified again

A diehard Northern Ireland fan who has been holding onto a bottle of beer for nearly 30 years has finally cracked it open.

Newtownards man Stephen Rowley (55) bought the beer in Mexico, just after Northern Ireland had bowed out of the 1986 World Cup following defeat by Brazil in the searing heat of Guadalajara.

Despite his immediate thirst then, he promised himself he wouldn’t drink it until his heroes had made it to another major tournament - but didn’t expect to have to wait almost three decades.
