Second World War veteran remembers VE Day

Dougie Shelley, 94, who joined the Royal Navy aged 17, served as a Seaman Gunner on the Arctic convoys before being posted to the Pacific and Australia. Mr Shelley described how the order of “splice the mainbrace” – for a double tot of rum – was made for the only time during his service.
