Taxpayer to pay for new locks as gardai apologise for cutting bikes from outside restaurant where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had lunch

During the newlywed couple's  two-day trip to Ireland they took in activities such as a garden party at the British ambassador's residence in Glencairn, they met with President Michael D Higgins and first lady Sabina at Aras an Uachtarain and they even met some of our finest athletes at Croke Park.

The royal couple enjoyed lunch at Delahunts restaurant on Dublin's Camden Street and before their arrival gardai were seen removing bikes that were locked to posts near the eaterie.

Gardai have apologised to the owners of the bikes and stated that the State will pay for new locks.
