WATCH: Terrifying moment tree nearly uproots close to housing estate in Cork as Hurricane Ophelia hits

Hurricane Ophelia is wreaking havoc across the country as more than 360,000 homes and businesses are currently without power.

Terrifying footage sent into Independent.ie shows a tree nearly uprooting close to a housing estate in Carrigaline, Co Cork as violent gusts batter the Rebel county.

Gusts of up to 190km/h have been recorded in Cork according to Met Éireann.

Fallen trees are causing chaos on roads across the country.

A tree fell on a passing car on the Tower Road in Blarney earlier this morning, while a crane has blown down on the Little Island slip road from the N25 in Cork also.

Met Éireann's latest statement says there is a "danger to life and property".

"Violent and destructive gusts of 120 to 150 km/h are forecast country wide. Most severe conditions over Munster and south Leinster at the moment."
