The family and friends of Detective Garda Colm Horkan held a procession through his native town of Charlestown this afternoon. It comes after people lined the streets in respect as the remains of the late Garda were brought home to his native Co Mayo last night. There was almost an air of disbelief among those who came out to salute the garda following his killing in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, on Wednesday night. The body of the popular garda was taken from Roscommon to his native Mayo by Garda escort, passing through Ballaghaderreen on the way as locals stood and clapped to pay their respects. The 49-year-old had spent much of his career working in the town, earning a reputation as valued member of An Garda Síochána.
