ARCHIVE: Wicklow woman recounts how Air Corps saved her after headbutt from horse


Emma is a competitive horse rider. On the 6th of June 2016 she was racing in a Point to Point event in Ballingarry Co. Tipperary when she was unsaddled as she approached a fence. The medical staff at the race course soon realised the seriousness of Emma’s injuries. A call was made to the National Ambulance Service and EAS call sign “AirCorps112” was launched. Emma’s injuries required a multi-disciplinary team and Cork University Hospital, a 2 hour journey by road ambulance was reachable in less than 30 minutes by air.
