'Ireland is a very unfriendly place for off-grid living' – Dublin according to liveaboarder Shane Kennedy

Liveaboarder Shane Kennedy takes part in Independent.ie's video series exploring where Dublin is in its story.

"The state wants you connected to electricity, they want people to fit in pigeon holes, but not everybody can do that." Shane told Independent.ie.

Shane lives on his boat HMS Portisham, a former Nato mine-sweeper, at Balbriggan Harbour.

Shane had seven-year fight with Fingal County Council to remain living on the boat. in 2017 the Supreme Court ruled Fingal County Council had no jurisdiction over the sea.

The former electrical engineer calls his home "a work in progress", and hopes to be in a position to sail south towards Portugal in the coming years.
