Health Minister and Tánaiste announce minimum unit pricing for alcohol

Minimum unit pricing for alcohol will be introduced in Ireland from January 1, 2022.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly insisted the measure is being introduced “because there is powerful evidence this works”.

The Tánaiste expects minimum unit pricing to save lives. He said it is not targeted towards most drinkers, but the "heaviest drinkers" and "those who tend to seek out the cheapest alcohol."
