The dramatic moment a brave man dived into the river to save a drowning man has been captured on film.
The incident took place at Newcastle’s River Tyne at around 8.45pm on Monday, when an unknown person was spotted struggling in the water.
The video shows a crowd of pedestrians gathering around the river to look on, while another man, dressed in black, can be seen running down the ramp near the Tyne Bridge and jumping into the river.
The man, identified by Newcastle’s Evening Chronicle as 21-year-old Joe Deverdics, swims toward the now-unconscious person, grabs hold and pulls him to safety.
As he is dragged out of the water, the clip shows emergency services arriving at the scene.
It is understood the man did not suffer serious injuries during the incident.
