WATCH: Irish folk band belt out a tune on the Great Wall of China – and the locals love it
A visit to the Great Wall for a band photo soon turned into a full-blown trad session.
Acting The Maggot, an Irish partyfolk band from The Netherlands, had been performing in China as part of 2018 Beijing International Canal Arts Festival – where they appeared on local television.
During their stay, the band decided to bring their instruments to the Great Wall of China for a band photo.
"Instead of a picture we started to play a couple of songs. This Chinese family came towards us and asked for a picture with the band." Said lead singer Maarten de Gans.
"But then the little kid stayed and when we played she started to dance. Some of the moves are typically Chinese we think.
"It was a strange but amazing day… no amazing WEEK. How is it even possible that an Irish band from the Netherlands is invited by the Chinese government to play a couple of gigs? I think I have never even thought of playing on the Great Wall of China."
