Top jazzmen at the concert hall

GUITAR master Louis Stewart joins American virtuoso bassist Peter Washington for an evening of world-class jazz in the John Field Room of the National Concert Hall next Wednesday at 8pm.

Peter Washington has had a long career in music, playing with such bands as the Art Blakey Jazz Messengers and the Tommy Flanagan Trio.

"Peter and I have worked together in the Village Vanguard in New York in a quartet setting," said Louis yesterday. "This is our first time together as a duo, and I am greatly honoured to play before an Irish audience with such a wonderful musician."

Meanwhile, the Thursday sessions (9pm) in the Bleu Note, Capel Street, Dublin, by the Louis Stewart Quartet are attracting a good following. With Louis are Colm O'Sullivan (flute), Dave Redmond (bass), Sean Carpio (drums) and such guests as Myles Drennan (piano).
