Born: Stabannon, Castlebellingham, Co Louth. Family: Married, with two sons and a daughter. Education: Convent of Mercy, Dundalk; then to UCD for her degree in botany, a stint as postgraduate in plant ecology and the HDip.

Career: Joined An Foras Forbartha, a forerunner of the Environmental Protection Agency in the Department of the Environment. Took early retirement when division was restructured, becoming a consultant. Contributed to Mooney Goes Wild on RTE Radio since 1995.

Car: 1994 Ford Mondeo.

Favourite restaurant: Likes eating locally in Terenure.

Reading: Proofs of her new book Wild and Wonderful and Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose.

Last play: Alone They Stand.

Hobbies: Cooking.
