Coleen Rooney is an English celebrity and wife of former Manchester United, Everton and England footballer, Wayne Rooney. Ms Rooney had a libel action taken against her over allegations she made about Rebekah Vardy leaking details of the Rooneys' personal lives to British tabloid newspapers.
Rebekah Vardy complained she was being made a “scapegoat” during Euro 2016 and that news coverage made her “blood boil”, newly-released documents in the “Wagatha Christie” libel trial have revealed.
A moment please for comedian Dan Atkinson, the man who coined the term Wagatha Christie in a viral tweet three years ago. This week, he wrote about his “gift to headline writers everywhere”. However, when the celebrity court case of the year returned, he noticed that the origin of the name was being credited to a Belgian woman. Confused, he revisited his original tweet and was devastated to realise he had “included a stray g” and spelled it Wagagtha Christie. Thus, technically he was not the first person to tweet “Wagatha”. He said: “That stray ‘g’ will haunt me until I am under the ground, a gravestone above me with the inscription… ‘RIGP’.”
The post on Coleen Rooney’s Instagram account was a warning. “Don’t play games,” she wrote. “With a girl who can play better.” At times during this week’s “Wagatha Christie” libel trial, Rebekah Vardy must have wished she had heeded it.
