Obituary of Richard ‘Dixie’ Hale: Top Irish soccer player who was the best player never to be capped for his country
For a large part of the 20th century, the Hale family was a virtual assembly line for Waterford Football Club. In the 1930s brothers Alfie, George, John and Tom set the ball rolling, all playing for the Blues, with Alfie also lining out for Shamrock Rovers on a tour of the United States.
